Hoot by Carl Hiaasen

This book is about a boy named Roy Eberhardt living in Florida. Roy encounters many excursions in his new home and school. On his way to school the BIG bully, Dana Matherson, smashes Roy's face against the school bus window. While staring out of the window Roy sees a boy running away from the school bus. The weird thing is he has no shoes! Roy sets his mind to catch this boy, but along the way he runs into some burrowing owls, alligator porta-potties, Beatrice the Bear, aggressive pancake people, and an unlikely friendship.

After reading this book, you should also see the movie.

Alabama Moon by Watt Key

I liked Alabama Moon because it makes you feel like you're apart of all the action and drama. This book is about a boy who lived in the forest with his father because they hate the law. Then his father dies and the boy is in the forest by himself. The law was after him and they caught him. What will the boy do next? I recommend that this book be read by 4th grade through 6th graders.

Football Genius by Tim Green

Part I

The Boy's Book Club has read the first part of this book and this is what they think:

Troy, the main character of this book, is in 6th grade and is the second string quarterback on a football team. Although he is a great player, he doesn't get to play much because the first-string quarterback is the son of the team's coach. The other cool thing about Troy is that he has the ability to predict football plays, but his coach won't listen to him. When his mom gets a job at the Atlanta Falcon's football team, he tries to steal one of the footballs because he wants to prove to Seth Halloway, the Falcon's linebacker, that he can really help by telling him the plays of the other team. Will anyone ever listen to Troy????

So, Troy goes to the head coach's office with Seth Halloway and Seth tries to tell the coach that Troy is able to predict football plays. The coach who was watching a pre-season football game, tells Troy to predict plays for that game. But there are no real patterns in pre-season games, so Troy was unable to give him any information that would prove his ability to predict plays.

Troy and Tate go to Seth's house to proved that he can really figure out plays. Seth believed him at first, but since Troy couldn't predict the pre-season plays, Seth was embarrassed in front of Coach Krock. But when Tate and Troy barged into the house they found all of Seth's teammates watching a game. Seth made an agreement with Tate, that if Troy could predict all the plays for that game his mom would get her job back.

Will Troy be able to predict the plays? Will Troy's mom get her job back? Read the book and find out!!

The 6th grade boys book club thinks that alot of girls would not like this book. But they really liked it and recommend that third graders and up would like this book.

Buddy the Bookworm recently visited a beautiful beach in Jupiter, Florida.  Although it was a sunny day, the strong wind kept blowing Buddy around, so he couldn't stay very long!  Buddy liked the sand, and noticed that several people were reading books on the beach.  Buddy loves readers, because the "more you read, the more you know, the more you know, the smarter you grow"!

Everest Series by Gordon Korman

The 6th Grade Boys Book Club has read the entire Everest series over the past few months. This is what they have to say.

The Contest

The Contest is an action packed book. Dominic wants to achieve a goal to be the youngest person to climb Mount Everest. But, so do a lot of other teeenagers. One kid named Perry doesn't really want to participate, but he feels obligated to go because of his uncle's sponsorship. As Dominic goes along he faces trouble. Does Dominic win the contest or will he pay a price?

The Climb

The group traveled up Everest but along the way a kid named Tilt tries to lead Dominic the wrong way. Tilt cheated to try and beat Dominic but Dominic found his way. Will Dominic survive the rest of the climb?

The Summit

Dominic got sick from the altitude because his body wasn't develped enough to breathe air that high. So they brought him to the mountain's medical center. After he got better and began to cliimb, his friends found him climbing and they all joined together. They didn't think he was going to be able to make it. Ethan thanked Dominic for saving him by taking Dominic on the mountain with him. Another scary thing that happened is that Dominic ran out of oxygen. Does Dominic and the rest of his friends reach the top and acheive their goal?

The 6th Grade Boys Book club thinks that 3rd -6th graders who are interested in realistic fiction books will have a great adventure if they read this book series.
